Microsoft Power Platform (PL) Certifications

Looking for a Power Automate certification? Microsoft retired the Power Automate RPA Developer exam (PL-500) on 30 June 2026, so there is no longer a certification for Power Automate alone. Power Automate is now tested inside the wider Power Platform exams. This guide shows which exams you can still take as of October 2026, and which have been retired. Here’s an overview of the available certifications and their corresponding exams:

1. Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Fundamentals

  • Exam: PL-900: Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals

  • Description: This entry-level certification is ideal for individuals aiming to understand the capabilities of Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI, and Power Pages. It serves as a foundation for more advanced certifications.

2. Microsoft Certified: Power Platform App Maker Associate

  • Exam: PL-100: Microsoft Power Platform App Maker (retired on 30 June 2024)

  • Description: Retired on 30 June 2024. Microsoft now checks app-maker skills through shorter Applied Skills credentials instead, such as ‘Create and manage automated processes by using Power Automate’.

3. Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Functional Consultant Associate

  • Exam: PL-200: Microsoft Power Platform Functional Consultant (retired on 31 August 2026)

  • Description: Retired on 31 August 2026. Its successor is AB-410: Microsoft Certified: Intelligent Applications Builder Associate. AB-410 tests Dataverse data models, model-driven and canvas apps, and Power Automate cloud flows and business logic.

4. Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Developer Associate

  • Exam: PL-400: Microsoft Power Platform Developer

  • Description: Intended for developers who design, develop, secure, and troubleshoot Power Platform solutions. They implement components such as application enhancements, custom user experiences, system integrations, data conversions, custom process automation, and custom visualizations.

5. Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert

  • Exam: PL-600: Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect (retired on 30 June 2026)

  • Description: Retired on 30 June 2026. If you passed it, it stays on your Microsoft Learn transcript, but it can no longer be taken or renewed.

6. Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate

  • Exam: PL-300: Microsoft Power BI Data Analyst

  • Description: Designed for data analysts who enable businesses to maximize the value of their data assets using Power BI.

7. Microsoft Certified: Power Automate RPA Developer Associate

  • Exam: PL-500: Microsoft Power Automate RPA Developer (retired on 30 June 2026)

  • Description: Retired on 30 June 2026. This was the only certification for Power Automate on its own (desktop flows and RPA), and there is no direct replacement. Power Automate cloud flows are now tested in AB-410 (see below).

Each certification is tailored to specific roles within the Power Platform ecosystem, allowing professionals to validate their expertise and advance their careers accordingly.

Which Power Automate certification should I take in 2026?

If you are new to Power Platform, start with PL-900: Microsoft Power Platform Fundamentals. If you build apps and flows for your team, AB-410 (Microsoft Certified: Intelligent Applications Builder Associate) is the associate exam that now covers Power Automate cloud flows. Developers who write code should look at PL-400. If your work is reports and dashboards, PL-300 is the Power BI exam.

Is there a free Power Automate certification?

The learning paths on Microsoft Learn are free. The certification exams are paid, and Microsoft sets the price by the country where you take the exam.
